Zero Harm
Zero Harm is the most ambitious safety goal in the history of the Balfour Beatty Group. It is our commitment to achieve Zero Harm by 2012.

This means:
- Zero deaths
- Zero injuries to the public
- Zero ruined lives among all our people
We need to develop and maintain a culture of safety where everyone wants to work safely and challenge what they do and the way in which they do it. We all need to 'Make Safety Personal'.
Make Safety Personal is our behavioural safety campaign to promote the awareness and importance of safe working such that whatever we see or wherever we see it, we should make sure it is being done safely. Our approach is based upon the principal of the 3 C's.
CONCERN Intervention through concern for the safety of the individual and not just for a breach of systems.
COACHING Support individuals to make their own decisions on how to improve safety.
COMPLIANCE With our operating system is a baseline, not a goal, for which everyone will inevitably take their personal responsibility to work safely.
It is our aspiration to be in a position where we have zero reportable accidents across the business.
Staff Development and Growth
Appraisals are an ongoing process and are one of the management tools that we use to help develop and grow our people.
