Taking safety personally
The health and safety of our employees and all those affected by our construction activities is fundamental to the future success of our business. We fully appreciate and understand that there must be no conflict between our requirement to keep our workforce and members of the public safe from harm and our long-term business and financial success.
We believe that a robust and continually improving health and safety performance will only be achieved by following three simple but essential, principles:
- Strong and active leadership
- Employee and supplier involvement
- Assessment and review
To help us deliver our principles, we have recently introduced five Zero Harm rules. It is the responsibility of every individual in our business to follow, as an absolute minimum, these rules:
- Be fit for work
- Always receive a briefing before starting work
- Report all unsafe events and conditions
- Stop work if anything changes
- Always keep your place of work safe, clean and tidy
In recognition of our recent efforts to improve our health and safety performance we have, for the third year in succession, been awarded the RoSPA Construction Sector Award. Additionally this year, we were presented with RoSPA’s Sir George Earle trophy. This is one of RoSPA’s most prestigious awards and recognises our specific health and safety initiatives around leadership and supplier engagement.
