Making A Splash In Sunderland

Sunderland is now home to the all-new, state-of-the-art Sunderland Aquatic Centre.

The new centre contains the only 50-metre pool between Leeds and Edinburgh and has a 25m multi-purpose pool with springboards and diving platforms. With seating for 500 people, the centre will be used to stage high profile national and regional competitions and has also been earmarked as a training centre for swimmers competing in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Both the main pool and multi-purpose pool have moveable floors to allow their depths to be varied to accommodate a range of activities. The main pool also has a moveable boom that can be used to alter its length or sub-divide it, allowing more than one group of swimmers to use it at the same time.

This is also the most environmentally friendly pool in the country, with every drop of rainwater that falls onto the roof being collected, filtered and recycled for use in the pool.
