A Leader in the Field of People Development

Balfour Beatty Construction has won two awards in recognition of its approach to people development.

At the North West Constructing Excellence Awards, Balfour Beatty Construction scooped the Skills and Education award for a Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Management developed in partnership with Salford University. This is the first academic course in the UK to be derived exclusively from NVQ standards and is designed to prepare those aspiring to Project Management roles by providing the underpinning knowledge required for the job.

Success also followed at the Yorkshire and Humberside Constructing Excellence Awards where the Learning Hub at the Pinderfields Hospital site won the Leadership and People Development award. The learning hub was recognised for training local people in construction skills, finding employment and apprenticeships for local people in Balfour Beatty Construction and the supply chain and for the delivery of a comprehensive schools engagement programme.

In addition, the project has piloted a new Skills for Life assessment tool that helps to identify literacy and numeracy needs amongst the workforce, has delivered English language training to migrant workers and increased the H&S qualifications held throughout the supply chain.
